Life keeps moving on here in a different way as we spend day after day in a different place and every few days in a different bed. We remind ourselves every day how lucky we are and we stop every few hours to look around and drink in where we are and what we are doing.
You know G worked very hard to make our way through a bunch of different activities throughout our trip but every now and then, in order to save a bit of money, I do sneak a bit of other people's things (see picture). Also, when we run out of socks or one of ours just dies with a hole, we just head off to our local wash and dry shop and take one. Too easy.
Today we had a great day. We headed off by tram to the Dresden Hygiene Museum which was terrific. The man who founded toothpaste first started this venue because he wanted people to become more aware of cleanliness and health and so in the 30's this city was known as the cleanest and healthiest city in all of Europe. It holds the "Glass Lady" which has been on display and used as a teaching tool all around the world. It is one of the only museums whose production of display articles continues to be used world wide for teaching purposes such as the glass cow.
Before we knew it, 4 hours went by and we forgot to eat lunch. Of course, being teachers AND retired, this week was the beginning of a six-week summer holidays for students so we were surrounded by them. Again, I have to emphasize how open and true these people are to their children as the day-care and parents today took their children to each very vivid and realistic bodily and sexual displays and discussed each one honestly and with patience.
On the tram, 3 children who were on their way to a swimbad for the day, one came to me and did a survey about ice cream. It was the student's summer project and so I had my picture taken with her and answered her questions. Together we all got off the tram and walked down the street sharing life and stories.
G and I continued on to the three castles up in the mountain and sat for the afternoon watching the river boats and polished off a bottle of rose wine. We ended the day at the train stn planning our day for tomorrow to a town called Rathen which is on the Czech border and then a river cruise back to town. Fri. We leave for Frankfurt. We are hoping to be able to call home by the weekend as we are still having difficulty getting out of Europe by line. Must be because of the Olympics they figure.
