Poznan, our first Polish stop

We left quite early, stopped in Poznan, 70 000 peopled city where old and new are mixed. Much of Poland is, like Dresden and Leipzig, being reno'd after the communist rule. There is much that is still ugly but more that is beautiful.
We hit the city at lunch right in the middle of celebrations for the assumption of Mary - a holiday in this very Catholic land.
Holy shit, it's a good thing that we are taking a bus trip for this one. The language is no where close to anything we know how to speak so we do a lot of pointing and nodding. We are learning minor words but it's some kind of language made up by throwing letters into the air and then just assigning an item to each jumbled bunch of letters.
We had our home-made lunch on a step and then walked the city quickly to see lots and get some exercise. We came across a bronze set of statues which was of two goats . This happens to be the symbol of how the Polish people see themselves. The goats were butting heads and they say that these people are very stubborn like goats to still have a desire to carry on and create a happy life and home with what all of the world had done to this country during and after the wars. It had the highest numbers of people killed during the war at 9 000 000. If you watch the movie called "the Pianist" you will get just a small idea of how horrid it was. Poznan was just one of those cities where 85% of the city was destroyed.
