Our first day in Dresden was great. We found a wonderful brkfst buffet awaiting us with lots of free stuff to take with us for the day including fruit, granola bars and yoghurt drinks. Best ever, is that our room has a huge window which opens wide right onto my bed - yahoo menopause, bring it on. I had a great sleep. Chilly all night.
We headed into the old city for our bus orientation tour. We had an hour, before the english tour started, so we headed to a cafe for a "gross koffie" - you can't beat that.
We met our tour guide who was this cute young man of 35 who spoke English well and who had saved us a seat, because we were the only English travelers, right behind him and he turned around to talk to us personally each time. He kept offering us extra time after the cruise to explain to us where we should go to see the sights. After the tour we took him to a restaurant that he had recommended and we had a lovely lunch together. I ate something called "spoon sized dumplings" made out of something I've never tasted before and came in the size of two huge softballs sitting on my plate. Wow, were they good.
We shared stories, laughed, gave him our card so he can visit us in Wpg and then hugged him and sent him on his way.
We continued on visiting the old city and arrived back at our hotel to partake in the late tea and swimming.
We had every intention of coming to Dresden and not liking it as much as Leipzig because we had enjoyed Leipzig so much, but we can't help ourselves. Dresden is a city as large as but with more character and interest and certainly more history.
