1. If you are looking for any road signs to help you get around - excepting for those in the ancient parts of the city, forget it. Even in the ancient city parts, the signs are up on a building somewhere and you really can't count on them.
2. The 2 subway lines are good and usually pop you up somewhere near a piazza or a notable and worthy thing to see.
3. The Italians are so well dressed that you would believe they are all models, therefore, and I know that you all can't believe this statement, I have had so many people look me over from head to toe in disbelief as to how I dress myself. What can one do with only 4 major outfits for 4 months. (Good thing that I have a solid character to withstand the rolled eyes and disapproving glances.)
4. It is true that in certain stores, when you want to buy something, the sales lady will actually tell you that you are "too big for that dress and it is for a smaller woman" and then refuse to sell it to you. I guess they would rather give up a sale then to create a crime on fashion. Again, strong character and sense of self.
5. When you order a bottle of wine in the restaurant and don't finish it, they give you the cork to take the wine with you.
6. You can't hail a cab - not permitted, one must be arranged or called for service.
7. There are far too many things to see in the city so choose the most important for you and leave the rest for another time.
8. You must, however, visit the Trevi Fountain and put your hands into the beautiful green waters as it is said that if you do, it is sure that you will return to Rome.
9. The major shopping street is Via del Corso, with many of the stores we know plus extras that we don't; but it is sure to be enjoyable as you walk on the street along with the cars that are going back and forth at the same time as you are.
10. Final point: if you think you'll be coming to Rome at any time from March to Oct, be free of tourists and be able to stretch your arms out without hitting someone in the face, then think again. Still, it's worth the trip.
